Bedbug Pest Control and Killing Services | EBS

Bed bugWe regularly carry out bed bug pest control treatments in both commercial and domestic properties to get rid of bed bug infestations in and around London.

Quite simply, this extensive experience has made us very effective at removing bedbug infestations from properties ranging from one bed flats up to large hotels, student accomodations etc.

Bed-bug problems are on the increase in very recent years. This is thought to be much to do with the increase of international travel to climates and environments where bedbugs are more prevalent. They are picked up on clothes etc, packed and brought back home. Similarly, travellers to the U.K. can bring them into the country

Bed bug infestations can also be transferred on second hand furniture, bedding and mattresses.

When returning from holiday abroad and suspect beg bug problems, it is advisable to keep holiday clothing, luggage etc seperate from your wardrobe and hot-wash or specialist clean as soon as possible to kill off insects that may have been picked up.

If you visit a U.K. hotel and suspect bed bug infestation in your room, tell management immediately. They’ll be grateful I’m sure.

If you find small red dots on your bedding, they are likely to be blood spots from feeding bed-bugs. Red itchy spots on your body in the morning are again likely to be from their feeding.

If you feel you have a bedbug infestation and want to confirm if before calling in a contractor, you can do your own inspection. You will need a decent torch, a magnifying glass is helpful and patience.

(We can of course do this survey for you at no cost to you)

  • Strip the bedding. Inspect sheets, pillows duvet and cover for insects, blood spots.
  • Now the bare mattress - small black dots in bunches are likely to be bed-bug faeces. They are sticky and difficult to remove from mattresses.
  • Eggs - These are very small, pin-head size and pale white. The magnifying glass is useful here.
  • Caste skins - Again, difficult to see especially from nymphs. They will be roughly shaped like a bed-bug.
  • You will need to closely inspect both sides of the mattress, including seams and under buttons. any rips or tears? - look inside.
  • The bed frame - look everywhere, including inside hollow legs if not sealed.
  • Carpets around the bed - Lift up edges, lift up underlay. If patterned carpet, running strips of gaffer tape or similar lightly over the carpet will pick up whats there.
  • Floorboards - check gaps between and around the edges
  • Curtains nearby? - check the curtains, seams, any buttons, curtain poles
  • Plug sockets, wall/floor junctions, skirting boards, architraves, clocks etc - any cracks or crevices, inspect within. Seal them with mastic if possible.
  • Bedside tables - Empty out drawers, check under/around/within
  • Bookshelves nearby - check within pages and binding
  • Other soft furnishings, eg chairs in the room - Need to be checked thoroughout
  • Other nearby furniture, pictures, mirrors? - Check as for bedside tables and behind pictures etc.

Found any evidence? you now need to repeat the above in other bedrooms, especially those adjacent. Consider also sofa’s, studies etc where persons may spend time stationary.

Biology

Bedbugs grow up to a maximum size of 6mm approx. Very flat body unless recently fed. Oval shaped, red-brown colour changing to mahogony after feeding.

Reproduction Cycle. Egg-Nymph-Adult. Female lays up to 200 or more pale white eggs at a rate of 4-5 a day. They will only hatch in temperatures above 10-13 degrees Celcius. Bed bug nymphs take five moults to reach adulthood which will take from a few weeks to several months (average 4 months) depending upon food supply and conditions.

Importance. Bites from bedbugs can cause allergic reactions, but they are not a known disease carrier.

Bed bug treatment

All the little ’dot’s on the edge of this bed frame are bed bugs.

Our pest control technician treated the frame and surrounding areas (eg, carpets, furniture, skirting boards etc) with a high performance residual insectcide which will kill bed bug adults, eggs and larvae.

The mattress was treated seperately in our HEAT BUBBLE which is a pesticide free way of killing off many species of insect pests, including bed bugs.
